The Chelsea United Methodist Church was originally known as the Carthage Landing Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1823 a Methodist society was organized in the village of Low Point, in the south-west part of the town of Wappinger between Fishkill Landing and New Hamburgh. The five Trustees elected were:  Elijah Budd, John H. Brinckerhoff, Felix Shurter, Henry I. Brinckerhoff and Garret B. Brinckerhoff. A church was built in 1833. In 1871 the village changed its name to Carthage Landing. In 1879 the church had its first resident pastor, and in 1901 the name of the church was changed to Chelsea. In 1974 Chelsea was placed on a charge with Beacon. It celebrated its sesquicentennial in 1983. In 1994 it was placed on a charge with Wiccopee, and in 2003 it was closed.
