Chester United Methodist Church (N.Y.) Records, 1891-1975

Extent: 1.0 linear feet, in 1 records storage box.

The Chester Methodist Episcopal Church first appears in the New York Annual Conference Journal appointment list in 1854, although Methodist classes in the area likely go back further than that. The church was closed November 7, 1971.

The Chester United Methodist Church records date primarily from the late 1950s to the mid-1970s, and include baptism, marriage, death, and membership records, a few charge conference reports (1967-71), and financial records documenting the last years of the church’s existence. One additional record book contains membership records and baptisms dating from 1929-1958. Since the membership records note when the member was received into the church, some dates go back as far as 1891.
